Mechanics' Ministry

Formed in late 2006, Our Mechanics' Ministry rebuilds old snow machines and four-wheelers to be used by missionaries in the bush.

The Mechanic Ministry has completed their first project. The 1995 Yamaha Phazer II ST is ready to go. The Alaska Baptist Convention chose the recipient based on need. This first project will go to Luke Stewart to use in his ministry for the Lord.

Luke is about to graduate from the Alaska Bible College, Glennallen and will be assigned to the mission field here in Alaska. Although he attends school in Glenallen, he lives in Gulkana without transportation, so this will give him a way to get to and from school. After school he will be able to use it for transportation in the bush.

The Mechanic Ministry will be starting their new project as soon as they find one. A four-wheeler seems the logical choice being summer is just around the corner.

If you are mechanical minded & interested in joining this ministry, contact Davy Baldwin.

Ed. Note: The following was from a cover letter that Davy sent to Luke Stewart:

My name is David Baldwin Jr.; I am a member of University Baptist Church. I and a few of our members who enjoy working on machines have been putting together a snow machine for you.

Many of the guys who have put in time on this machine enjoy riding. We all can often be found working and rebuilding broken down bikes and stuff of our own.  We all decided it was something we could do for the Lord as well.  I work at Northern Power Sports here in Fairbanks as a salesman, so I am around snow machines, motorcycles and four wheelers all day.

We were given this 1995 Yamaha Phazer II ST by a member of our church; Raymond Lowdermilk. The machine had been wrecked and needed some love. I was able to get parts at my work for cost and we did all the labor ourselves. I just wanted you to know what was done to the sled so you can have a record of what has been replaced.

ED Note: The letter then gave him a long detailed list of everything done on the vehicle to repair it. He continues . . .

“I have included a service manual for your benefit. If you are not going to be near a place that can work on this sled for you, you will have to have something to tell you how it works and how to fix it. You will need to plan on purchasing the two stroke injection oil (I recommend Yamalube 2S), spark plugs (BR9EYA or BR9ES) and drive belts from time to time. If you need anything please call me at work. I can help you trouble shoot any problems or get you parts if you need them.

The sled is a sound machine. We made sure of that. We didn’t want it to strand you anywhere.  We have prayed over the sled many times as a group. We have asked the Lord to look after you and this machine as you do the work He has planned for you. We have included a couple of before and after pictures in the paper work. I have registered the machine in your name and have the current registration and stickers for you. May God bless you and keep you.

End of letter

As mentioned before, if you are mechanical minded & interested in joining this ministry, contact Davy Baldwin. Next month we hope to be able to show you the before picture, and also one taken when Luke was given the machine.
