Job Description for

Part-Time Minister of Youth

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION:    The Part-time Minister of Youth is responsible to the Pastor for the development and promotion of a program that provides for spiritual growth, fellowship, mission opportunities, and outreach to youth grades 7 – 12.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Administrative Duties:

A-1      Be responsible to the Pastor to develop and implement a comprehensive youth program that provides for spiritual growth, fellowship, mission opportunities and outreach to youth grades 7 – 12

A-2      Work with the Personnel Committee in matters relating to
             policy

A-3      Attend staff meetings

A-4      Serve as a member of the Church Council and attend committee meetings as necessary to enhance the youth program

A-5      Assist in the training and coordination of youth workers

A-6      Make written monthly summary reports on previous month’s activities and all planned activities at monthly business meetings

A-7      Other duties that may be assigned by the Pastor

A-8      Read and follow Policy on Conduct and Code of Ethics

A-9      Read and implement Policy on Working With Minors as it relates to the Youth Ministry

A-10    Lead Youth Ministry Team

Planning Duties:

P-1      In harmony with UBC ministries, direct the planning, coordinating, conducting and evaluation of a comprehensive Youth Program.

P-2      Serve as an ex-officio member of the Youth Committee. Work with the committee in planning, developing, and conducting a balanced program offering opportunities in each of the following categories:

a.                   Bible Study

b.                  Fellowship

c.                   Missions

d.                  Outreach

e.                   Worship

P-3      Work with the Youth Committee in determining youth ministry goals, organization, leadership, facilities, finances, and administrative process

P-4      Work with the Youth Committee to formulate a proposed youth budget to be presented to the Finance Committee by November 1

P-5      Cooperate with association and state leaders in promoting activities of mutual interest

P-6      Coordinate activities with youth Sunday School department

P-7      Work with the Sunday School Director in securing teaching
             material that will help provide for the presentation of sound,
             theological teaching of the scripture that is consistent with
              Southern Baptist theology

P-8      Work with the Sunday School Director/Nominating Committee
             to secure youth workers

P-9      Submit schedule of activities for inclusion in church calendar

P-10    Advise in the use of program materials, equipment, supplies, and space by youth groups in all church programs and organizations

P-11    Personally lead a youth Bible study each week and a minimum of one activity each month

Caring:

C-1      Counsel with and witness to the youth of the church. Based upon legal requirements, personal limitations, or a perceived need, confer with  the pastor

C-2      Promote continual Christian growth of youth in their homes by establishing relationships with parents and keeping them informed

C-3      Give direction to a Youth Ministry plan of visitation and enlistment in cooperation with Church outreach

C-4      Provide leadership and supervision of the youth during activities, programs, etc following Policy and Procedure for Working With Minors, encouraging them to act and participate with a Christian attitude

C-5      Promote activities that will reach out to the unchurched youth of the community

C-6      Provide teaching and activities that will provide for the spiritual growth and development of the youth participants

Personal Development:

PD-1    Keep informed on methods materials, principles, procedures,
              promotions, and administration as related to the youth
              program

PD-2    Always conduct oneself in a professional manner realizing that
              the actions of a youth leader are an example to our youth and
              those actions influence their concept of what is acceptable
              behavior; i.e., see Ethics Policy

QUALIFICATIONS:

Q-1      Able to participate or arrange for proper leadership and
              supervision for all activities

Q-2      Have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record

Q-3      Minimum age of 21

Q-4      Prior membership and leadership in youth activities in this or another Southern Baptist Church is preferred

Q-5      Seminary education and experience in youth evangelism is preferred

Q-6      Become an active member of University Baptist church

Q-7      Prayerfully concerned for the spiritual growth and development of the youth and possesses a desire to further the spiritual growth of the youth

Q-8      Possesses the ability to communicate and relate well to youth
 from grades 7 –12

Q-9      Possesses sufficient administrative and organizational skills that enable wise planning, record keeping and reporting

Q-10    Shall accept and demonstrate an understanding of the tenets of the Baptist Faith and Message

Q-11    Shall have no felony convictions, past record of child molestation or abuse
